A quick review of how I remodeled my RV shower and things I wish I would have known.
Let me begin by telling you I have zero experience in renovations. I love doing small makeovers in my home but I think the hardest thing I’ve done is replace my restroom sink and vanities. Thats about the extent of the work I’ve done leading up until now. Let me also advise that in my head I believe I can do anything a man can do. Yes, that’s right, full on women power post and blog here.LOL With the guidance of constant facetimes with my brother of course. But those happen all the time anyways so what’s the difference if he throws some advise my way here and there.
Anyways, lets get back on the subject of why you’re really here. I just redid my RV shower/bath and so far I’m loving the way it came out. I’m hoping this method will hold up. My brother made me fully aware that it is super difficult to redo a shower. Many of the methods don’t hold up and eventually peel or crack. So this being said, I did do a lot of research and read a whole lot of blogs to figure out what I was going to do.
Since I’m currently a stay at home mom of four, my budget is pretty tight these days for projects and hobbies. My husband made it very clear that I couldn’t go crazy with this remodel. Sooo that meant buying a whole new tub was out of the question. LOL Not saying I planned that anyways. ๐ So I found a budget friendly blog on Pinterest that mentioned using Appliance Epoxy. And I will put a list of the items used for this project at the bottom of this blog post. Now this seemed like the most budget friendly route. Its only been about a week and we haven’t done any trips in the RV yet but feel free to follow along on this RV remodel on my instagram https://www.instagram.com/ourcharmingmess/ , because I’m still remodeling the RV so you can follow along to see that and to also see how the shower holds up after being used. Now, so far coverage and color look great. I think I will definitely do a couple more coats just to finish off the can and have full coverage. I ended up using two cans and it was very reasonable so if it doesn’t hold up or last until I’m bathing my grandkids in there, I won’t be completely disappointed. Im satisfied for now.
If you’re anything like me, and rush out the door to do a quick project while the baby naps without fully thinking things through and taking time to prep, this method isn’t for you. LOL The reason why I say this is because I do almost 90% of my projects in a rush while the kids nap and that resulted in some attire casualties. Thank God my husband will probably never take the time to read my blog posts so I feel secure is stating that there are a couple polos that got thrown away in the side trash can during work hours. :/ Okay so, the reason why I bring this up is because the prep, like most paint jobs, is SO important!!! I purchased a couple plastic drop cloths for the bed, the stove and sink. Then material drop cloths for the floor right in front of the shower. I thought this was the only place I had to worry about because the shower goes inward and I wouldn’t be spraying a flat wall. If that makes any sense to you, great, if not, Im sorry, that’s just what sounded right in my head. LOL
So fast forward to half way through the spraying, I step out of the RV for a quick fresh breath because spraying any type of spray in a tiny space gets pretty overwhelming real quick. And I did wear a mask during the entire process. So I step back into the RV and now realize that this stuff is COVERING the floors in my RV. The floors that are completely away from the shower. Now mind you, im not a profressional and I don’t have very much experience in painting, let alone, this kind of basically spray paint. I freak out mid project, get on my hands and knees and start scrubbing with a dish sponge and Lysol spray. Thankfully I was able to get the overspray off my floors. Thats basically the only modern thing in my RV that I don’t feel the need to upgrade is I really don’t want to ruin that.
I finished the job and stepped out of the RV and didn’t go back in until two days later. I wanted to let it air out completely and settle before I took a clean look. Probably another bad decision on my part. LOL I went back in and found that closing the restroom door and having cupboards and cabinets shut didn’t mean anything at all. The overspray seeped through and covered clothes, sunglasses, and a couple random items. The shower looks great! Rudys polo and shorts? Not so much! So I would just like to say, this spray as of right now gets a 6. If it holds up over time, it may go up to a 7. Thats as high as I will go for the great color and reasonable price for my budget. The cleaning and prep needed with this product was the reason for the deductions. So I hope you find this blog helpful. I will link items used. And if you have any comments or tips, please feel free to share. This is the very beginning of my RV remodel journey. Im on to the cabinets next and I would love any and all tips, suggestions, and recommendations. Take care readers! ๐ <3
